Southerness Community Council is set up by statute and run by local residents to act on behalf their community. Community councils in Scotland are the most local tier of statutory representation and are intended to bridge the gap between local authorities and communities and help to make public bodies aware of the opinions and needs of the communities they represent.
Southerness has a maximum of nine community councillors representing around 210 residents together with 3 ex-officio members who are local Dumfries and Galloway councillors. Their role is to offer advice and support, but they have no voting rights.
Community Council meetings are held on the last Thursday of every second month (January, March, May, July, September & November) our Annual General Meeting will be held in May. Members of the public are welcome and, indeed encouraged, to attend our meetings held at The John Paul Jones Hotel starting at 7.30pm.
